No Hazardous Waste in the Trash!

Publication1Do not throw household hazardous waste
materials in the trash!

We have received several complaints from Central Maine Disposal regarding residents putting hazardous waste materials in their trash bins. This is a reminder that Central Maine Disposal will NOT pick up any garbage placed in a box or paper bag, yard debris, bulky items, hazardous waste, oil-based paint, chemicals, ashes, pesticides or sharp items (that are not in a closed container.)

There will be a Household Hazardous Waste drop-off at the China Public Works office on April 22nd from 8 am - 12 pm. We will post when we have more information.

Many common household items contain chemicals that can create environmental hazards if not handled properly. These items include but are not limited to:
  • Televisions
  • Computer monitors and other electronic devices
  • Waste oil or gasoline
  • Antifreeze
  • Pool chemicals
  • Fluorescent lights
  • Thermometers and thermostats
  • Batteries
  • Old paint
  • Pesticides.
Visit the State of Maine website for more information on these materials and why they cannot be disposed of with your regular trash pickup.
